I've seen a lot of "How to best force a paladin to fall?" comments and people telling stories about how their gaming group screwed over their Lawful Good character over perceived "moralfaggotry" or expected Lawful Stupid behavior, so let's make a thread commemorating what Lawful Good is supposed to be about. Inspiring hope. Bringing freedom to those enslaved. Bringing down evil without stooping to its level. Acting with integrity and honor without falling into the pitfall of Lawful Stupid.
Personal stories from the gaming table, fictional characters, real people... Anything goes, as long as they embody the best and brightest the human (or nonhuman) species has to offer.
Starting with: Atticus Finch from "To Kill A Mockingbird". What makes him Lawful Good? He is brutally honest, highly moral and a a tireless crusader for good causes (even when those causes are seemingly hopeless).

Anonymous 09/19/08(Fri)18:58 No.2618103I had one campaign where two Paladins (mine and an NPC) ended up fighting each other over a prophecy that foretold that a young child would become a great force of evil in the world. The other one had been convinced that in order to prevent this from coming to pass, he had to kill the child, whereas mine refused to allow the then-innocent to be killed and wanted to bring the child up to be good in defiance of the prophecy. I managed to avoid killing him because two of my party members had improved disarm, so in two rounds he'd been divested of all his weapons and the rogue had already made off with the kid using his ninja hax. It was pretty epic. |

Anonymous 09/19/08(Fri)22:30 No.2619543Aang from Avatar the Last Airbender, after the finale I'd say LG. Despite being pretty carefree and all about freedom etc, he has his own set of strict personal guidelines (his teachings as an Air Nomad) that he absolutely will not compromise on, no matter what. In the series finale, he has to beat the Firelord, and everyone (including his own past lives, including his past life that shared the same teachings) tell him that he needs to act, needs to be pragmatic and must put the greater good above his own personal spiritual wellbeing. but he flat out refuses to kill this guy. Aang kicks reason to the kirb and does the impossible. |
