You can skip the Forest Temple entirely and do the Fire Temple, providing you have the Hookshot. I tried to do the Water Temple as well, but there are two place were you NEED the bow. You can still beat Morpha before Phantom Ganon though.
I don't whether beating the first three Temples or just beating the Water Temple triggers the event which lets you enter the Shadow Temple, but you need to have beaten the Forest Temple to enter the Bottom of the Well and obtain the Lens of Truth.
You need the Longshot and the Lens of Truth to enter the Spirit Temple, and items from just about every other dungeon (including the Hover Boots) to beat it.

Unlike Link and Zelda, Ganondorf is never reincarnated between games and is always the same character.
Seriously, he should have got it in his thick head that it's the guy in the green outfit you go after first, not the useless chick whose kidnapping never benefits you anyway.

There's a period of time where the Triforce of Courage is actually SEALED AWAY and Link doesn't have it. That's a time period where Ganondorf can have his game that he spends hunting down Link before Link starts up the heroic business.
Alternately, it can be a game where you finally use Zelda and save Link.

Or maybe Gannon just doesn't care that he's beaten in the end?

He understands that destiny, fate, and all that shit is against him. And besides, every time he revives, he's gurenteed to at least be able to wreck shit up for awhile. I can imagine Gannon fully knowing Link will win, but going out and enjoying himself while he can. And then when Link wins, Gannon just shrugs to himself and thinks "Eh, it was a good run. Besides, I always come back. Hey Link, enjoy your now completely ruined country! Hah!"

Just imagine his life. Be born, live in the tribe of delicious brown women for awhile, probably having massive amounts of awesome sex. Go out into the world and just wreck the shit out of things for the fun of it. Then once there's pretty much nothing left for you to wreck, some pansy in green stabs you and builds it all up - just so you can come back and break it all over again!

Gannon's living the fucking dream.

I'd like to think that Ganondorf started out as an good scholar of sorts. He is proud of his people, and is determined to bring them a Golden Age. He visits Hyrule, because he realizes the importance of diplomacy (This is is his teenage years, I suppose, way before OoT). He visits, and is amazed by how advanced their civilzation is in comparison to the Gerudo. He is determined to learn everything he can about Hylian magic and technology and bring it back. But then he hears whispers and rumors about himself and the Gerudo people in general. He hears the Hylians think of the Gerudo as savages who are nothing more than thieves. His disillisuionment is finally shattered when he realizes that the King of Hyrule himself, already a very iffy king who Ganondorf is superior to, already hods a grudge against Ganon, and tries to limit his ability to bring technology back to Gerudo. Ganondorf becomes bitter to the Hylians, jealous of their Goddess granted magic and fertile lands, and resolves that he will try to attain the highest artifact of magic - the triforce. With a wish, he could reverse the situation, bring a renaissance to the Gerudo people, and show the hylian people their greed and vanity. He returns, looking up every legend of the triforce, driving himself mad with the quest. He's willing to cripple the Gorons and the Zoras by starving them of their mines and rivers, if it means that he will get a piece of the triforce. He starts a civil war with hyrule, with Zora, Gorons, Hylians, and Gerudo all fighting each other, just for the Triforce (Which has become vastly more interesting after the King of the Gerudo uncovers the legends about it) During this war for the Triforce, a pregnant hylian women runs from the war, to a village of child-like people names Kokiri....

next zelda, you start out as a late teen in green in a small village. blah blah blah, you get told that you have to save the world from some evil and you end up going to see zelda.

Shit hits the fan when you realise that she has the triforce of wisdom and the evil will happen when they are all united, so you take zelda away.

then holy shit, there's this other guy out there trying to get zelda, you have to stop him.
then in obvious twist,
'i have to stop the triforce of power'
'no link you have the triforce of power'
then link was the gannondorf.

I agree to an extent. This has been done plenty of times before. But I wouldn't mind if he was, at some point, not corrupted. A villain does require some motive aside from some instinctual evil. I don't see why Ganondorf cannot have a deeper personality, since it's Nintendo's central story-based franchise. For instance, perhaps he was not always evil, but the moral dogma of his superiors eventually disillusioned him to the true nature of morality. Even sociopaths need some gray area.

Based on Wind Waker, it's probably hard to tell who exactly is going to be Link in the world. He could be any kid from anywhere, and there's nothing that seems to identify him apart from any other kid until he starts his adventuring.

Meanwhile Zelda has that triforce and whatnot, and knows shit, and is part of the royal family who are super important. It's entirely possible that Zelda rarely seems to be a real thread BECAUSE Ganon focuses his efforts on her, crippling her ability to stand against him.

I dunno.

If they still bother to check their old games' backstories, then the Triforce-less Links would still have the marker on the back of their hands, so that would give a bit of a hint in finding him, since he would probably still have that 'link'... sigh.. to the other two holders.

Now that I remember it, the Link that was in LoZ and Zelda II was said to be traveling from another country when he first entered Hyrule and saved Impa from Ganon's minions. Maybe at some point when the designated Link ancestor left Hyrule for whatever reason, he gave up the Triforce of Courage, which explains why it was sealed away in the Great Palace for some indeterminate amount of time.

Then again, Nintendo doesn't really put any real thought in the older Zelda games' place in the time line, so they probably won't revisit this period.

I don't think Gannon is really a TORTURED PAST kind of villain. Or a GOOD INTENTIONS villain.

In every game, he's completely and absolutely arrogant when he goes up against Link. He takes cockiness to a new level. It's not even that he's sure he's going to win - it's that HE DOESN'T CARE.

That's the secret to Gannon. He knows he'll always come back. He knows that he can't be defeated, not permanently.

Ever wonder what Gannon thinks when Link delivers the final blow?

"There's always next time. There's ALWAYS a next time."

the main issue i have with it is that i can't comprehend an endgame.
good conquers evil is much easier to be done as a story rather than evil over good.
would the game just be legend of zelda dungeon running, but with gannon instead?
and at the end, do you beat link, and take the full triforce and wish for an evil world?
that doesn't seem like a finished story.
A great way to give him more character depth, but not a complete game

WW Ganon realized the whole cycle of Zelda and Link being reincarnated and thus tried to remove Zelda from the equation. Her magic is what can (usually) seal him away; Link often has to have help to finish the job.

The only reason he didn't kill Link is because he needed him to obtain the triforce pieces and open up Hyrule.

I think it's funny how the triforce pieces ended up.

Zelda, for being the holder of the Triforce fo Wisdom, usually fails to prevent her country from being invaded all the time, as well as being usually useless to Link's adventure's until he needs the light arrows, which usually he finds in a dungeon, then Zelda steals as though she's actually being helpful.

Link, for being so courageous, has to crawl through upwards of 15 dungeons, slowly gathering an arsenal of weapons that eventually could lead ot Ganon's weakness. He never confronts Ganon until he has Ganon's two weaknesses (Light Arrows and Master Sword).

Ganon, for his powerful image, is more cunning than anyone else in hyrule. He sneaks into Hyrule in OoT, then subverts the king and his court, and eventually takes over the kingdom. He also cleverly traps the goron and the zora by finding and taming whatever fiendish monster happens to be immune to their natural weapons.

Triforce of power? Self-explanatory. Ganondorf's stupidly powerful, and turns into ganon when he invokes the triforce's power.

Triforce of courage? Not as evidently useful as the triforce of power, but it certainly has its pros. Its manifestation could be seen as the items Link collected during his quest, since traversing the dungeons undoubtedly requires courage.

Lessee what Ganon's Greatest Hits are...

Legend of Zelda: Generic villain whose only purpose was as an end boss. Story purposes has his minions ravaging the land looking for the Triforce of Wisdom.

Zelda II: Dead. Minions still thrashing Hyrule, this time looking for Link.

Ocarina of Time: Under the guise of Agahnim, he plotted to kill the descendants of the 7 sages (who somehow all happen to be human females) to fully break the seal placed on the Promised Land/Dark World. His imprisonment in the Promised Land mutated the once beautiful land into the twisted mirror of Hyrule it now is.

Ocarina of Time: Killed the King, destroyed/mutated Hyrule Castle, froze the Zora, planned to have the Gorons killed, minions invaded Kokiri Forest. Played a mean piano.

Oracle of Ages/Seasons: Suffered from still being dead like in Zelda II. Botched resurrection turned him into giant mindless boar demon, then promptly died again.

Wind Waker: Only time he was eloquent and had some depth. Never really did anything purely EVIL as he didn't kill any of the kidnapped girls. Ended up with a splitting headache.

Twilight Princess: Back to being generic evil. Used Zant as his pawn to free himself from the Twilight Realm. Minions caused untold havoc and death in Hyrule thanks to the Twilight creatures.

Haven't played Phantom Hourglass, Four Swords Adventures and never finished Minish Cap, so dunno if he's in them or not.

The only games in an official (canonical) timeline are OoT, MM, WW, TP and PH. Well, I guess Crossbow Training as well.

OoT splits off into two timelines:

1) Future - Ganondorf is imprisoned, and Link disappears from this timeline when Zelda sends him "back".
After many years, Ganondorf breaks free of his seal and attempts to take over Hyrule. With no Link in this timeline, the King of Hyrule uses the Triforce to flood the land.
This leads into Wind Waker.

2) Past - Link informs child Zelda of what Ganondorf is plotting instead of drawing the Master Sword and allowing him into the Sacred Realm. By doing this, he is prevented from taking over Hyrule and is executed/imprisoned by the Sages for his crimes and intentions.
Link then goes off to Termina, an alternate dimension, but it is presumed he made it back.

Ganon breaks out of this imprisonment through Zant. This leads into/is Twilight Princess.

Then we get Crossbow Training.

The above is confirmed by Nintendo as the main timeline(s).

If you've ever read the manuals of Zelda games or the back of the boxes you'd know that they have a timeline planned out, since they usually explicitly state where each game goes in the timeline.
LttP has been officially stated as a prequel to Zelda 1 and 2, same with OoT, which is also a prequel. Nintendo said straight up that TP takes place 100 years after OoT. Majora's Mask and Windwaker's place in the timeline are also pretty damn obvious.

Well, where would you put LttP? The only way it would fit on the WW side of the timeline is after Phantom Hourglass.

And Minish Cap is the first in the timeline, followed by OoT, which is the first Ganon/Triforce story in the timeline.

It is possible to do the Desert Temple/Temple of LOLTIMETRAVELIDONTREMEMBERTHENAMEDUH before doing the Shadow Temple

I did so because Shadow Temple sucks ass
just like Water Temple

Actually, it wouldn't even fit there. It has to be after Twilight Princess.

Well LttP doesn't fit in it at all, it just influenced OoT which became the new beginning. Read something like that in Nintendo Power

Neat. But Nintendo only laid out the right timeline up to TP. Unless they flat out said that it leads into LttP, and I just haven't read that yet.

I as just basing that off of the whole "And the Master Sword sleeps...FOREVER!"

I think it has to do where you find the medallions in LttP.

Accurate except there is no way to be certain about the two LoZ games put after Twilight Princess.

Also, since Ganon seems pretty dead in the Adult link timeline, maybe that's where all the games Ganon is dead in can go.

I always knew you could do the Spirit temple without the Hover Boots (although I think there was one part where I always used them to jump to the hand in the large statue room and I don't know if that's necessary) but how do you get past the Haunted Wasteland without them? I always needed to use the Hover Boots to cross that quicksand river, apparently you can just hookshot across?

you can just roll. Link doesn't sink that fast.

Link kills Ganon in LoZ, and his minions attempt to ressurect him in AoL. The Oracle games also involve the attempted ressurection of Ganon.

So, MM - TP - LttP - LA - LoZ - AoL - OoA/OoS works, right?

You can hookshot the crates that are on the other side.

The real fun is using levitation codes to find LOLWUT items in chests as a child.

Connect Legend of Zelda+Zelda II to Link's Awakening, and then connect the Oracle games to to Zelda II and that's pretty much the timeline I theorized about a long while back.

Wind Waker screwed up my fan made timeline though, but having two separate ones due to OoT's time traveling tomfoolery fixes that.
The Four Swords games are enigmas to me, as I haven't played the mode in the GBA version and never played the GC one. Isn't Vaati the final boss in both?

Almost anything could work. Honestly there is really nothing that enables us to make connections between all the other games and the timeline that has been established.

You're missing three of my favorites. I really like the Fire Temple and Shadow temple, though.

Huh, I guess I like them all.
