DC Simpson was an extreeeeeeeeeeme liberal furry comic artist. Like, so liberal that he decided he was a woman not because of some truly deep-rooted psychological yearning, but because he just couldn't stand being a white male.

He wrote a comic strip called Ozzie & Milly that was beloved by furries and non-furries alike. Its blatant ripoff of Calvin & Hobbes-ness gave it a wholesome demeanor that many loved, leading DC Simpson to be viewed as "one of the good ones" by non-furries and to have "protected status" among furries.

Except the child characters in the comic kept winding up bald, shaved, and otherwise stripped "naked". Eventually it came out that DC Simpson (named himself after Lisa Simpson, btw) had done out-and-out fetish artwork of furries getting shaved. He gets off on it. And he'd been sneaking it into his "clean-cut, wholesome" comic for years.

Eventually he ended Ozzie & Millie and started up a new comic about a far more blatant self-insert who was Blue Canine Martin Luther King, struggling against the oppression of the evil conservative hyoomuns for her right to be a dog and have sex with very young human boys. Didn't go over so well. Shaving did, of course, show up a few times.

But sometime during all this there was a contest for a webcomic creator to get a deal for an actual newspaper comic contract. Simpson rallied what remained of his fanbase and zerg-rushed the polls. His saccharine, empty, self-indulgent comic ("Girl") won because of this. It took roughly three years for the actual comic to come out, now heavily altered to be about a nutty uberliberal little girl and her long-suffering intelligent unicorn friend.

Aaaand the unicorn's being shaved.

Presumably the author of that thing knows how to schmooze a little. And DC Simpson is a shameless self-promoter that will sacrifice any bit of integrity or honesty to get more exposure, so I don't doubt that he can kiss ass like a pro when it seems necessary.

While Kurtz is as fame-hungry as anyone, he's such a tremendous asshole that he just can't set aside his sense of self-importance or arrogance for anything. To get syndicated you've either gotta schmooze, or you've got to have a product that's so good that it will overcome your shitty interpersonal skills and asshole demeanor (see: Bill Watterson).

Kurtz's comic is nothing special, and he certainly won't lower himself to kissing anyone's ass but his own. And maybe Gabe and Tycho's.

It's funny, these sorts of things. I know of someone who does one of those interactive stories, "quests" in common parlance, and whenever the moment permits it, you will often see a rather strangely detailed of the inside of whoever's mouth. When you draw a mouth usually it's just teeth and black, or maybe you'll draw the tongue too, but this guy would draw everything - the teeth, tongue, tonsils, lines indicating the sides of the mouth, all the things.

Of course, turns out he's one of them vore artists, got his own little gallery somewhere. Whether he does it on purpose or not it's interesting that it is a thing that is apparently in his mind, regardless of necessity.

Of course, Simpson would only be doing it for his own personal fetish fuel.

Only they're not. Not if you're going for "correct" portrayal, which is what you were complaining about. A "real" unicorn is not just a horse with a horn, it's a mix of goat and horse, often smaller than a normal horse and also into virgins.
